Crumbling buttes, undulating hills and kaleidoscopic clay make up the Utah badlands. The sediments in this barren region were deposited between 95 and 200 million years ago before being exposed to the elements by uplifting of the Colorado Plateau. Despite the name, the geology in this area makes for an astounding variety of natural artwork, created by millennia of erosion.
